Where Is The Coldest Place On Earth
More than 98 percent of Antarctica is covered in ice, and it contains 70 percent of the world's freshwater. The thick ice sheet makes Antarctica the highest continent with an average altitude of 2,300 meters.
Antarctica is the most populous continent with about 5,000 people in summer and about 1,000 in winter. With 14,200,000 square kilometers, Antarctica is the largest continent, almost twice the size of Australia.
And where is colder - at the North Pole (in the Arctic) or in the South (Antarctica)? The first thing that comes to mind is the cold in the north. And this is wrong!
Antarctica is the southernmost continent on earth and it prides itself on being the coldest, driest and windiest continent on earth. The cold temperatures and overall climate of the continent make Antarctica a difficult place to live.
The Southern Ocean is colder than the Northern Ocean and maintains a cooler temperature. The South Pole tends to get less sunlight than other locations, but this is similar to the North Pole. Although Antarctica is the highest continent on average, the temperature decreases with altitude.
