TWINS
[@OMG FACTS #14]

It would be fun to have twins. Twins can play together, dress alike and take care of each other as they grow up. Do you agree?

About 25% of identical twins are mirror-image twins, meaning they accurately reflect each other. Identical twins often want to be incredibly close to their twins in adulthood, which is what many of them are. While fraternal twins look as unequal as brothers and sisters, they also look alike in other ways.

Although scientists are not sure why there are so many twins in developing countries, they suspect that most of the differences are due to fraternal twins i.e. birth rates. What causes so many twin births is still a mystery, but it may have something to do with a root vegetable called cassava that boosts fertility.

Most twins are born healthy, but a twin pregnancy can mean a higher likelihood of health complications for the babies.

It is unfortunate that some people do not consider fraternal twins to be real twins, because they do not always have the obvious similarities that an identical twin does.
